Sustainability Investment Plan

The Rondebosch East Islamic Community Trust (REICT) is deeply committed to fostering a sustainable environment while serving the community. As part of the center’s upgrades, green solutions will be integrated to promote energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.

Key initiatives include:

1. Solar Energy System

A comprehensive solar solution will be implemented, featuring solar panels, inverters and batteries to provide consistent, clean energy to power the center. This system will significantly reduce reliance on the current, often unreliable, government electricity supply while contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.

2. Energy-Efficient Heat Pumps

Heat pumps will be installed, reducing energy consumption by up to 75% while ensuring efficient heating solutions for the center’s needs.

3. Water Conservation Measures

A borehole with a filtration system will be installed to provide a sustainable and independent water supply. In addition, water-saving fixtures will be fitted throughout the center, with a particular focus on the wudhu (ablution) areas, to minimize water usage without compromising functionality. Through these upgrades, the REICT aims to significantly reduce the center’s environmental footprint while ensuring a self-sustaining and resource-efficient facility for future generations. Ablution and toilet facilities will be upgraded.

4. Inclusive Accessibility for All

A wheelchair-accessible lift will be installed, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for individuals of all abilities, allowing everyone to fully benefit from and participate in the Masjid’s facilities.
